OUR MINISTER

Gerald England was ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa in 1984, and served for 11 years in the Pinelands Congregational Church in Cape Town for 11 years.

In 1998 the England family moved over to the UK after he was called to serve in the pastorate of Kidderminster and Bromsgrove URC in April 1998, serving both as minister and as Area minister for the Worcestershire and Herefordshire Area of the West Midlands Synod until August 2010.

Having being called to Emmanuel URC at the beginning of 2010, Gerald began his tenure with us in October that year, and also shared his ministry with Christ the Servant LEP for the next 5 years.  In 2016 he ended his ministry with Christ the Servant, and began serving as Synod Pastoral Adviser for Swindon and the Wiltshire United Area. This means he continues his ministry here at Emmanuel at 75% scoping, whilst serving in the Synod for the balance of his full time ministry.

He enjoys watching rugby and cricket, and still has more than a soft spot for South Africa.  Both he and his wife Pat enjoy travel, and spending time in the manse garden (when weather permits!)  During the Summer time visitors to the church will often be confronted with the tantalizing aroma of a barbecue from the manse next door.
